Italian Perl Workshop 2008: Guest Speakers
Thanks to the sponsors, like in the fourth edition, this year too we're inviting many international guest speakers. The following ones are currently confirmed:
- Tim Bunce, author of the Perl DBI interface, and of a series of important CPAN modules such as DBD::Oracle, Devel::NYTProf; Tim wrote several books published by O'Reilly Media, and has been a speaker at OSCON and other conferences and workshops for several years.
- Thomas Fuchs, Javascript guru, author of the script.aculo.us Javascript library, member of the Prototype core development team of the the Ruby on Rails core development team; co-author of the Javascript Performance Rocks ebook.
- Amy Hoy, expert in user interface and product design; speaker at OSCON and other workshops and conferences; co-author of the Javascript Performance Rocks ebook.
- Mike Whitaker is a member of the Moose community, and has given a number of talks on Moose at other Perl workshops. Mike works for the BBC's iPlayer team, and is a founding board member of the Enlightened Perl Organisation.
- Jonathan Worthington, Perl 6 Rakudo and Parrot virtual machine core developer.
The 2009 IPW edition will be a great edition, don't miss it!
Dave Rolsky will not come to Italian Perl Workshop - Moose world-class cancelled
Unfortunately, the organization had to cancel Dave Rolsky participation (due to personal reason).
Also Moose World Class (scheduled on October 21, 2009) has been cancelled.
We strongly hope to have Dave next year for YAPC::EU 2010
Call for Paper: last days for submissions
On Sunday September 20, 2009 we're closing the Call for Papers for the 2009 edition of Italian Perl Workshop. So, if you still have to send your paper in, this is a right moment to do it. ;-)
Payment system for registration / participation confirmation opened
We are officially opening the payment system for registration or participation confirmation to the conference.
Organizational costs are (for us) nearly always a problem, and this year the organizers have even managed to cover the expenses of 5 guest speakers coming from all over Europe.
Once you have logged in, you can go to the 'Edit profile' page, and follow the 'confirm your participation' link. On that page you can confirm you participation.
Therefore, if you want to support the Workshop, you can choose to pay the "Supporter" price or make a donation. This will help us to improve the services the workshop offers, and to organize events of always increasing quality in the future.
In addition, by buying the "Supporter pack" ticket, you'll also get these extras:
- an invoice (if you ask for it)
- the Workshop T-shirt
- a "Supporter" participation certificate
- Perl.It Association membership (if requested; more information soon)
We'd like, for all the people that plan to be at the dinner on 22/10/2009, to buy their tickets before October 08, 2009: that will help us in the organization and booking the restaurant.
However you will be able to confirm and pay for attendees' dinner at conference reception during registration (of course if there will still be available places).
Some things to note:
- If you are a speaker, that is, you are going to give some (non-lightning) talks, you don't have to buy a conference ticket. Of course, you can buy a ticket, but we will not force you to. Don't worry, we'll give you the T-shirt!
- If you are a speaker, that is, you are going to give some (non-lightning) talks, you don't have to buy the dinner ticket: the organization is happy to offer it to you.
- If you are a 'guest' speaker or sponsor you don't have to buy a ticket and/or an Attendees' Dinner ticket.
- We are about to put in the t-shirt order for IPW 2009 t-shirts. If you are planning on buying Supporter ticket or only the t-shirt, please set your size of t-shirt in your profile page.
Hotel discounts
The organization contacted several hotels in Pisa in order to have discounts and rooms reservation for conferences attendees.
If you planned to stay in Pisa during workshop days, now is the time for booking! (September is high season in Pisa)
For more informations see Accomodation page where you could find details about hotels, prices and deadline booking of reserved rooms.
We are contacting other hotels to get more discounted rooms. As soon as we have news, we'll publish them on the page above.
