The 9th YAPC::Europe conference will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark, on 13-15 August 2008.

Conference Theme
The theme for this year's conference is "Beautiful Perl", which we hope will inspire submissions on this and related topics.
Whether you have done beautiful things in Perl, you think Perl code is beautiful in itself (or not!) or if Perl has helped you do beautiful things, we would love to hear about it.
Although this is our main theme for the conference, it will not be the only one, and as such we will also be accepting talks on topics on just about any theme.
If you have an idea for a talk you'd like to give, or a topic you'd like to hear a talk on, you may like to post a synopsis on our conference wiki to see what others think. Proposed talks with a favourable response on the wiki have a better chance of getting accepted!
Talk Types
We will accept these two presentation formats:
A standard talk is the preferred format. This gives enough time to introduce a topic, presenting it with some slides, and a coverage of the main points leading up to later, hopefully more in-depth, discussions (possibly at a BOF). The duration of a standard talk is 30 minutes.
A lightning talk is a brief talk that focus on a single example, idea, project, module or technique. Lightning talks do not attempt to cover all aspects of their respective topics, but rather presents a facet of the idea clearly and succinctly. Lightning talks are an excellent forum for first-time speakers. The duration of a lightning talk is 5 minutes.
How to submit
To submit a proposal for a talk, please register on the YAPC::EU 2008 website, and use the talk
submission link there. Or send an abstract of your talk to

Submissions are due on Sunday, 25th May 2008. Submitters will be notified by Sunday, 15th June 2008 whether their talks have been accepted. If your proposal is accepted, you will be expected to confirm within one day that you in fact will give the talk; otherwise, your slot may be given to someone else.
Please submit abstracts/papers on the YAPC::EU 2008 website, where the program committee will review the submission. If you have something which does not fit the formats listed, please feel free to contacts us anyway and we will evaluate it.
The conference organizers reserve the right to adjust the length assigned to a talk, if necessary. If you want to speak on multiple topics, please submit separate proposals for each one.
If your talk is much longer than 30 minutes, please consider breaking it into 30-minute parts, to accommodate our schedule.
Please include the following with your abstract:
- A little information about yourself (and possibly an image of your choosing - preferably of yourself).
- An indication of preferred language and possible languages the presentation can be given in.
- An indication of the length of the presentation, whether this is a standard 30-minute talk, or a 5-minute lightning talk.
- A listing of any requirements you might have for doing your presentation. We will try to accommodate your request. Projectors will be available for all talks.
We might want to arrange a BOF as a follow-up to a talk and hope that speakers will welcome this and participate.
If possible, please include your slides/paper ready for online publishing, in one of the following file formats:
- plain text
- HTML
The files are also accepted just after talk ends, so you can include any last minute modifications.
We plan on doing audio and/or video recordings of the presentations, and making these available on our website. If you have issues with this, please let us know in advance.
