Does anyone have recommendations for places near the Alif?

Yes. The Bull Fighting building, right outside Alif, has been re-structured and now includes several restaurants of traditional portuguese cuisine on the ground floor, plus a food court on the lower level (it's right below the arena).

Other suggestions near Alif are the restaurant Chimarrão (right across the corner next to Alif) and the Rodízio da Adega.

Typical Portuguese lunchroom, lot of Portuguese people eat here; they serve nice omelettes and pies:
Pastelaria A Tentacao
Praca da Figueira 12
(near Metro station Rossio)

Vegetarian restaurant, excellent food (even some vegan stuff) and drinks (Mango Lassi, Chai):
Terra Restaurante Natural
Rua da Palmeira 15
(near Rua Dom Pedro V and Rua Escola Politecnica)

For a large collection of nice restaurants (like Garbos Gazebo, a Swedish-Italian restaurant), when you are on a trip in the neighbourhood, also nice for children, it is sort of a resort, with a park and walking paths, and a splendid view over the ocean:
Estrada do Guincho
Casa da Guia
Cascais
(along the beach east of Cascais, a city east of Lisbon, go via the A5 highway and the N247)

There are many other restaurants around.
